My name is Ligia Pascual. I have been working with Texas Bit for six months now. I’ve been in the construction industry six months, but I have worked in the environmental health and safety portion my entire adult career, so I’ve been in safety for over six years. So for me, we’ve been really kind of running at doing our training at the beginning of the year. So, part of my week is designated towards giving training for our plant employees, as well as our road crews. When I’m not doing that, then I’m out in the field actually observing them, and seeing there are things that they might need to communicate with me. Just being visible for them, showing them that I’m not just here in the office, I’m just a regular person, and make it so that they’re more comfortable with communicating, you know, things that might be a little bit more difficult to communicate with somebody that you’re not familiar with. So, going out in the field, seeing how they work, and providing supplies to them, that’s my job.

I do a lot of traveling and a lot of driving. I love what I do. I’ve never been the kind of person that likes to sit behind a computer all day long. I’ve always been interested in roles and responsibilities that actually get me communicating, up on my feet moving around, and seeing and talking with a variety of different people. So, that’s always been exciting for me. I guess for myself, what’s really helped me is to make sure you ask lots of questions. Even though you might not see somebody in the industry that looks exactly like you, a lot of people are more than willing to help and assist you. And so, just making sure that you put yourself out there, asking and getting that guidance. You know, a lot of the people, a lot of my mentors have been males, but that’s never discouraged me, the fact that they were males. It’s just pushed me harder to be somebody available and ready for, you know, to mentor somebody else that is a female, and getting them situated in industries that are not women dominant. But you just have to be able to ask a lot of questions and put yourself out there. I thoroughly enjoy being here at Texas Bit, and I think there’s a lot more that I’m going to learn having come from this industry.
