The Day-to-Day

  • Lead the QC team in safe production practices, aiming for ZERO incidents and upholding Texas Materials’ values of Safety, Integrity, and Quality.
  • Ensure aggregate materials meet specifications for all regulatory levels (state, county, federal, etc.).
  • Communicate KPIs and cost-control awareness to team members.
  • Facilitate customer and sales requests for sampling, testing, and product submissions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer issues, maximizing outcomes for both Texas Materials and the customer.
  • Manage employee performance through coaching, feedback, and discipline.
  • Maintain active QC/QA certifications and manage lab equipment and materials.
  • Mentor team members in technical, operational, and customer relations skills.

Job Requirements

  • Participate in industry associations like the Texas Asphalt Pavement Association (TXAPA) and foster agency relationships.
  • Manage financial operations for the quality control unit.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and oversee supplies/equipment.
  • Conduct bi-annual 3rd-party product testing.
  • Ensure tests conform to established procedures and policies.
  • Oversee specialty products, including testing and development of new products.
  • Conduct lab tours for visitors and the public.
  • Manage QC technicians on-site and in labs, overseeing workloads, schedules, and certifications.
  • Assist with hiring and interviewing as needed.
  • Consistent onsite attendance required.

Skills You Need

  • High school diploma or GED required; a Geology or technical degree may substitute for experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of quality control experience preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience managing a team of 2 or more.
  • Ability to obtain or hold certifications: TxDOT Level 1A HMA Plant Production Specialist, Level 1B HMA Roadway Specialist, and Level 2 Mix Design Specialist.
