The Day-to-Day

  • Inspect, sample, and test aggregates, asphalt, or other materials using accepted quality control methods.
  • Test mixtures to ensure compliance with contract specifications and quality control standards.
  • Monitor daily processes and materials to meet or exceed agency and customer requirements.
  • Accurately record and maintain test results in the database.
  • Obtain required certifications promptly (company-sponsored).
  • Maintain and certify lab equipment, keeping all documentation up to date.
  • Follow quality control plans and assigned guidelines.
  • Adhere to manager directions for daily tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ensure a safe work environment, using appropriate tools and following all safety policies.
  • Comply with company policies and OSHA/MSHA safety regulations.
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance of work areas.
  • Attend work consistently and punctually as scheduled.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ability to work in a team and assist co-workers and supervisors as needed.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and meet fleet safety qualifications.
  • Willing to travel and work away from home, including nights and weekends when required (travel incentives included).
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas as per OSHA/MSHA; PPE provided by the employer.
  • Comply with OSHA/MSHA regulations.
  • Physical capabilities: standing, walking, using hands, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment (with correction if necessary).
  • Comfortable working on hard surfaces for extended periods, in all weather conditions, and exposed to dust, noise, and fumes.
  • Available for extended hours if needed.

Skills You Need

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOT certifications for asphalt testing (company provides training and funding).
  • QC experience preferred; leadership experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, including sampling frequency, methods, gradation, and quality requirements, is a bonus.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and work effectively within teams, both as a leader and participant.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for rapport-building, listening, presenting, and giving/receiving feedback.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in email and simple spreadsheets.
