The Day-to-Day

  • Operate heavy equipment of varying sizes and weights safely and efficiently.
  • Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA safety regulations.
  • Report equipment issues to the Foreperson, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or HR.
  • Adhere to Foreperson’s instructions for tasks and expectations on each project.
  • Conduct daily pre-and-post inspections with proper documentation as per company policy.
  • Perform minor maintenance and servicing; escalate major issues to the supervisor.
  • Assist in training newer employees on equipment operation, maintenance, and safety.
  • Maintain regular, predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills You Need

  • Knowledge of operating heavy equipment, construction materials, methods, and tools.
  • Familiarity with safety precautions in equipment operations and construction sites.
  • Understanding of trenching and shoring standards.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment in various conditions.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy for record-keeping and reading project documents.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in handling complex machinery, requiring sound judgment and independence.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in heavy equipment operation required.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willing to work collaboratively, assisting co-workers or supervisors as needed.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license that meets state requirements (CDL Class A/B with possible hazmat and tanker endorsements).
  • Flexibility to travel and work nights or weekends when required.
  • Wear PPE in designated areas (e.g., face shield, safety shoes, coveralls) as per OSHA/MSHA standards.
  • Ability to safely operate motor vehicles, including pickup trucks, under various conditions
  • Able to work on sites with occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, high places, weather conditions, and risk of electric shock.
  • Tolerate noise levels from moderate to loud.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Vision requirements (with correction): close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Climb ladders and work at heights as needed.
  • Work in all weather conditions.
  • Physically able to exert 10-20 lbs. constantly, 25-50 lbs. frequently, and up to 50-100 lbs. occasionally.
