The Day-to-Day

  • Safely transport hazardous materials to various sites, following supervisor instructions.
  • Operate trucks with a 3,000-gallon capacity (e.g., water, distributor, service trucks).
  • Maintain telephone/radio contact with supervisors and direct paving trucks as needed.
  • Load trucks from emulsion tanks and apply emulsion to road surfaces before paving.
  • Maintain truck logs according to state and federal regulations.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections on truck equipment and supplies, including tires, lights, and brakes.
  • Keep vehicles clean and orderly.
  • Assist paving crew with tasks when not operating the truck.
  • Shovel materials as needed; serve as a flagman for traffic control when required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Pass DOT physical, drug screening, and criminal background check; MVR must meet company and DOT standards.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements in the Employee Handbook.
  • Professional demeanor with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist as needed.
  • Maintain a valid CDL Class B license with hazmat and tanker endorsements.
  • Open to training those with a CDL Class B but limited driving experience.
  • Flexibility to travel and work nights and weekends as required.
  • Wear PPE in designated areas (e.g., face shield, safety shoes, coveralls) in compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations.
  • Ability to operate safely in all weather conditions and adapt to various work environments, including exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Safely climb, stoop, bend, lift extension chutes, sit for extended periods, and exert force (10-20 lbs. constantly, 25-50 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. occasionally).

Skills You Need

  • Proficiency in truck operation and handling of related equipment.
  • Ability to operate safely and efficiently in varied conditions.
  • Strong math, reading, and writing skills for record-keeping and understanding project documents.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with securing heavy equipment and handling oversized loads.
  • Professional interaction skills for customer engagement, including payment collection and issue resolution
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
  • CDL Class B with tanker, air brakes, and hazmat endorsements required.
