The Day-to-Day

  • Oversee multiple bids, proposals, and estimates across various projects while managing a team of estimators.
  • Serve as the main contact for project managers and vendors, coordinating resources and materials.
  • Use experience and project specs to calculate materials, equipment, and labor hours; create and maintain project budgets.
  • Analyze blueprints, specs, and other documents to prepare estimates for time, materials, labor, and production.
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed estimates; maintain current pricing info from suppliers and contractors.
  • Consult with clients and vendors to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
  • Manage bid packages, subcontractor bids, and participate in the bidding process.
  • Manage awarded projects, including scheduling, resource allocation, cost projections, and billing.
  • Check daily cost sheets, monitor project progress, and report discrepancies.
  • Support the hot plant operator to maintain supplies needed for projects; review project reports with accuracy.

Skills You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or other related field.
  • 10+ years of construction estimating experience is preferred; or an equivalent of education and experience will be accepted.
  • TXDOT Federal Highway Experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute, rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of database software.
