The Day-to-Day

  • Manage multiple bids, proposals, and estimations across various sites while overseeing a team of estimators.
  • Serve as a primary contact for project managers and vendors, coordinating manpower and materials.
  • Use past project experiences and specifications to project materials, equipment, and man-hours needed, creating budgets for management.
  • Identify bid opportunities, attend site visits and pre-bid meetings.
  • Analyze project specifics, prepare risk analysis, and manage subcontractor and vendor queries.
  • Ensure DBE goals, prepare and submit questions to owners, and manage insurance quotes and bid bonds.
  • Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, calculate trucking, production, and crew hours, and determine project phases if needed.
  • Conduct post-bid handoff meetings with operations to ensure smooth project transitions.

  • Efficient time management to meet bid deadlines; ability to multitask and perform under pressure.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills; effective with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written); ability to handle public interactions calmly and courteously.
  • Skilled in complex oral and written instructions, and able to use the internet for research.
  • Strong self-motivation and adaptability, with the capacity to drive change and introduce new concepts.
  • Understanding of procurement’s financial impact.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle (e.g., pickup truck) in various terrains.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and climb frequently on uneven surfaces or construction sites.
  • Ability to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking, with occasional lifting as needed.
  • Ability to maintain mental alertness for the safety of team members.

Skills You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred, or equivalent heavy highway construction experience.
  • Field and estimating experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required.
  • Knowledge of HCSS, AGTEK Highway 3D, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office is a plus.
