The Day-to-Day

  • Provide technical and compliance expertise under the direction of the Senior Safety Manager, supporting field employees with safe work practices.
  • Assist with Life Saving Rules (LSR) audits at plant facilities regulated under OSHA.
  • Support accident investigations and conduct root-cause analyses to prevent repeat issues.
  • Occasionally operate Ready Mix trucks, adhering to DOT, TXDOT, FMSCA, and company safety guidelines.
  • Lead safety meetings and provide insights on safety trends observed in the field.
  • Set up jobsite safety measures, conduct spot checks, and analyze high-risk projects for potential hazards.
  • Observe workers to confirm proper use of PPE such as hard hats, goggles, and respirators.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and training, including the SMITH Driving System.
  • Certify driver check rides, providing feedback to operations management.
  • Conduct Job Site Hazard Analysis and safety assessments, reporting findings.
  • Monitor and report weekly on safety activities; identify and address negative safety trends.
  • Coordinate quarterly safety blitzes and share findings with field personnel.
  • Review monthly driver performance reports, conduct evaluations, and coach as needed.
  • Maintain relationships with customers, drivers, and plant, operations, sales, and dispatch teams.
  • Travel overnight as required and be available for weekend on-call duty.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

  • Approximately 20% of time is spent in an air-conditioned classroom, 60% in field settings exposed to dust, gravel, and diesel exhaust, and 20% in an office for clerical tasks.

Skills You Need

  • At least 1 year of experience in concrete construction or industrial safety.
  • Solid understanding of federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
  • Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  • Knowledge of ready-mix concrete products; recommended by operations management.
  • Strong driving, safety, and attendance record; maintain active DOT qualification.
  • OSHA 10- or 30-hour certification within 6 months; ACI Field Grade I certification within 1 year.
  • First Aid and CPR certified (within 6 months); Smith System Certified Trainer.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Strong training, teaching, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
