Not all roads are used the same way, so why should they be built with the same asphalt mix? MAC Mix is a multi-purpose asphaltic concrete system that can be custom-tailored to fit the individual needs and traffic of each road.
All metropolitan areas have a vast network of highway infrastructure with different traffic loading. They’re designed completely differently from one another, yet they all have one thing in common: they all require the same old scripted dense-graded hot mix asphalt. It’s not a bad mix, but certainly not intended for every roadway.
MAC Mix (Multi-Purpose Asphaltic Concrete) is an asphalt pavement mixture that is designed for superior performance and a longer lasting service life. Its unique design characteristics allow it to be used in a variety of different applications. It utilizes the Balanced Mix Design approach, making it rut-resistant to traffic loading yet crack-resistant to reflective and fatigue cracking.
Engineered UV-resistant asphalt binder modified with tire rubber
15% to 25% tire rubber with a solubility rate greater than 99.0%
ΔTc requirement less than 6°C for crack resistance
Approximately 0.5% more liquid asphalt than traditional mixtures
Mixture based on Balanced Mix Design approach
RAP and/or RAS added for sustainability and cost effectiveness
Can be placed at thinner (3/4″ – 1 ¼”) as well as regular paving thicknesses
